No-exam life insurance
Eligibility for fast-track underwriting, the process, and what happens if you don't meet the threshold.
A growing number of carriers now provide fast-track underwriting: for certain ages and coverage limits, they approve using your answers, medication history, driving reports and other background records instead of scheduling an exam. Many approvals happen within a day. Each quotation on this site notes whether an exam is mandatory, optional, or unnecessary for that offer.
What it changes
Skipping a medical exam isn't the same as skipping medical underwriting. The company confirms your answers, and a policy written based on false information can be challenged for up to two years. If the carrier uncovers any red flags, it reserves the right to order an exam or tests; you'll get to decide whether to continue.
Who tends to qualify
Most candidates under age 60 seeking coverage up to the carrier's accelerated threshold, with clean health records and no tobacco in the past year or longer. Some carriers also accept recent test results from your doctor instead of a fresh exam.
A medical exam usually takes 20-30 minutes, conducted by a paramedical professional at your home or place of work in the Ontario region, at no charge. A good health exam frequently improves your rate tier for qualified candidates, so it may actually work in your favor.
